What’s behind Door #2?

Hindsight is a funny thing. It lets us see the paths we could have taken—different choices, different outcomes. But living too cautiously, always trying to predict the ending, can keep us from the stuff that really matters: growth, adventure, and realizing you don’t always have to follow those so-called rules.

I had no idea what lay ahead when I took my very first bellydance class in 2003. It was in the side room of a historic home-turned-birth-center (which now feels hilariously appropriate— that’s where my dance journey was born). I showed up with my best friend and zero expectations… just curiosity and a desire to have fun together sans our littles.

I had no clue how much it would change me.

Pursuing growth has always been part of who I am. When life feels stuck, I tend to dig deep—through books, reflection, and more than a few one-sided conversations with my pets (who, thankfully, don’t interrupt). Bellydance wasn’t something I overthought (shush!). I just showed up—and that choice cracked open a whole new part of me.

I could’ve told myself bellydance was “for someone else”—not for a tired, distracted homschooling mom of little boys. But if I had… I’d have missed out on so many friendships, performances, and powerful lessons that I now share with MY students.

So, here’s your sign: say YES! Try the thing! Let it be messy, exciting, and real. You never know what might grow from that first hip bump.

xoxo Raena

Pssst…If you have a first memory of bellydance (or another hobby), tell me if you’d do it again!
